Multiplex Announces 40km and 80km Reach DWDM XFP Optical Tranceiver for Metro and Long Haul Applications
February 12, 2008

February 12, 2008

South Plainfield, NJ-Multiplex, Inc, a leading supplier of high speed optical components and subsystems announces the introduction of DWDM XFP tranceiver solutions for the industry's 40km and 80km reach for metro and long haul applications.

The DWDM XFP product line achieves dispersion tolerance up to 1600ps/nm. The module is fully compliant to version 4.5 of the XFP MSA, consumes less than 3.5W, and is fully RoHS compliant. The multi-rate module operates from 9.95Gb/s to 11.1Gb/s, and is compliant with SONET/SDH, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel, and G.707 OTN standards.

The increased bandwidth in the residential and enterprise access space is driving a corresponding increase in bandwidth demand into Metro and Regional networks. The advantages offered to system OEMs by plugging optics in the areas of flexibility, time-to-market, and inventory management are well known. With the OC-48 DWDM SFP already shipping in volume, the 10Gb/s DWDM tranceivers in XFP form factor now expand the applications where these benefits can be immediately realized.

"The DWDM XFP product line supplements Multiplex's growing transponder and tranceiver portfolio which includes the 40 and 80km DWDM SFF transponders. Providing a full complement of DWDM interfaces will enable our customers to optimize network designs for the appropriate price/performance point for any given application and our commitment to innovate and bring new viable solutions to the market", said Arun Kumar, Vice President, Sales at Multiplex.

The 40km and 80km reach DWDM XFP is currently sampling, and will have general availability in Q1 of 2008
